GridGen is a solar plus battery program built specifically for Pioneer Community Energy customers. Unlike a standard PPA that only addresses your generation charge, GridGen pairs solar with a Tesla Powerwall 3 to maximize self-consumption — meaning your home uses the power it produces directly instead of exporting it to the grid. This directly reduces your PG&E delivery charge, which Pioneer customers pay in addition to their generation charge. It's billed as a line item on your existing PG&E statement, requires no credit check, and is $0 down.

Pioneer Community Energy is a Community Choice Aggregator — they supply the electricity generation but PG&E still owns and operates the delivery infrastructure including poles, wires, and meters. Pioneer customers pay two separate charges: Pioneer for generation, and PG&E for delivery. The delivery charge applies to any grid-drawn power. GridGen reduces it by maximizing solar self-consumption so your home draws less power from the grid overall — cutting PG&E delivery charges up to 80%.

GridGen approval is based on your utility account standing, not your FICO score. As long as you own your home, are a Pioneer Community Energy customer in good standing, and have been current on your Pioneer and PG&E payments, you may qualify regardless of your credit history. There is no soft pull or hard pull on your credit report. This makes GridGen one of the most accessible solar programs in California for homeowners who don't qualify for standard financing or PPA products.

Your GridGen charges appear as a single line item on your existing PG&E bill. No new account, no separate bank transfer, no additional login. You pay PG&E as you always have — GridGen is simply an additional line on the same statement. The rate increases approximately 1.9% per year over the 25-year term, which is well below historical PG&E rate increase averages over the past decade.

GridGen is available in Pioneer Community Energy territory — primarily the Sierra foothills including El Dorado Hills, Loomis, Rocklin, Lincoln, Auburn, and Granite Bay. Eligibility is confirmed by your service address during the estimate process. If you're outside Pioneer territory or your account isn't currently in good standing, we have alternative $0-down options. Yes — Pioneer offers a battery-only retrofit path through GridGen for homeowners who already have solar installed. You complete a separate interest form specifying your existing solar system size, and a participating contractor reviews battery-only system designs suited to your setup. The Tesla Powerwall 3 is the battery used for all retrofit installations. This path is ideal if you already have solar but are still exposed to evening PG&E delivery charges or want backup power protection.

GridGen is a 25-year program agreement between you, Pioneer Community Energy, and Tesla. You agree to remain a Pioneer customer for the duration. If you wish to leave Pioneer's service territory before the term ends, you have the option to purchase the system at fair market value. At the end of the 25-year term, program terms are determined by Pioneer. The rate escalator of approximately 1.9% per year is locked at signing — it cannot be changed mid-contract.

If you sell your home, the GridGen program agreement transfers to the new buyer if they are or become a Pioneer Community Energy customer. This is handled at the time of the home sale. If the new buyer does not wish to continue the program, you may need to purchase the system at fair market value as part of the sale process. Solar plus battery systems consistently add appraised value in California — the system is a genuine asset, not a liability, in most sale situations.

Pioneer allows enrollment through Tesla directly or through a participating local contractor.
